Mind Mapping vs. Outlining

Perhaps the biggest advantage of using Prezi over more conventional presentation software is its reliance on “mind mapping” to graphically display visual information in a way that shows the relationship of one topic to another.

A mind map organizes information by visually “mapping” it rather than categorizing it into lists, tables, or graphs. A presentation organized by the mind map model usually fans out from a central place on a large canvas, whereas a presentation organized with a traditional outline tends to start on the upper left-hand corner of the first page/slide.

In order to get the most out of Prezi, you don’t need to abandon outlining entirely, but you will definitely want to ask yourself how you can take advantage of the relative freedom offered by laying out your content in a non-linear manner. Notice how spatial relationships of objects and words in your Prezi can help your audience to see the relationships of topics in your presentation to each other.
